French Instructor (Intermittent Lecturer) for RCLANG 190 for the Fall 2023.
The Residential College French Program http://www.rc.lsa.umich.edu/ is seeking to hire an Intermittent Lecturer to teach two discussion sections of Intensive French I for the fall 2023 only. This will be a 66.67% effort appointment.
RCLANG 190 discussion sections, made up of a maximum of 15 students each, emphasize developing speaking skills. In RCLANG 190, vocabulary, grammatical and cultural concepts, introduced in the lecture section, are applied in activities progressively leading to open-ended discussions. Pronunciation, reading and listening skills are also practiced. RCLANG 190 classes meet 4 times a week (M, T, Th, F) 10:00-11:00am.
Compensation: 66.67% FTE from September 1, 2023-December 31, 2023

Responsibilities*
The instructor is expected:
- to design lesson plans based on the course textbook and the syllabus;
- to grade written assignments (workbook, quizzes and essays);
- to contribute to mid-term and end-of-term written and oral exams;
- to contribute to the drafting of mid-term and end-of-term written evaluations;
- to be available for office hours a minimum of two hours per section;
- to participate in the program's co-curricular activities (lunch tables and coffee hour) once or twice per week depending on teaching load.
- to attend and contribute to course and program meetings.
Required Qualifications*
Native or near-native proficiency in French and proven teaching experience.
Desired Qualifications*
Preference will be given to instructors familiar with the Communicative Method, but also experienced in teaching grammatical concepts.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
